Today’s motto is “Rise and shine and get what you want!”
The surprising Tarot Garden in Tuscany
Have you ever had a tarot card reading? If the answer is “No”, well, never say never. But also for those who answered “Yes”, this is going to be a new experience. Prepare yourself to enter the esoteric world of tarot cards, in the wild side of Tuscany, Maremma. Here, in the middle of nowhere, the French-American artist Niki de Saint Phalle created majestic and brightly coloured sculptures. Since these fantastic creatures represent the Major Arcana, the place is called the Tarot Garden. For those who are not familiar with these kinds of cards, they are said to represent universal archetypes that influence our spiritual journey through life to Enlightenment. It’s time to start our trip and see some of them together.
The Strength card: may the force be with you
At the beginning, we meet Strength. With an invisible leash, a girl can get the upper hand over a fierce dragon, which symbolizes the dark side inside each of us. What does it mean? We have to overcome our ‘demons’, just like her, to be strong.
There, dominating the square is the Tarot card of the Empress. With her rounded forms, this female sphinx embodies divinity, motherhood, lust, innocence and, surprisingly, also home. Inside this gigantic statue, the artist created her apartment. Not just an ordinary one, of course! It looks like the house of mirrors with two more Tarot cards: the Chariot and the Judgment.
The Lovers card: it’s time to make a choice
Time to move on. When tired, you can rest on unique designed benches like the first couple do: Adam and Eve. Chosen for the Lovers card, they symbolize not only the love relationship but also choice, which can be either good or bad. About wrong decisions, the first couple are about to have a forbidden picnic.
But not all transgression is evil, and a mistake can lead to a better understanding of ourselves, according to Tarot reading. The same goes for the Death card, representing not just the end of Life, but also a Rebirth. The Grim Reaper, which gives sense to living, is a golden plump skeleton. Everything is colourful in the surreal world created by Niki de Saint Phalle, even Death.
The Sun card: get what you want!
For the conclusion of our journey in the surprising Tarot Garden in Tuscany, what better card than the Sun! Our benevolent star seems to be a legendary bird-like creature. We can use its vital force to obtain all we want and overcome any adversary.
Finally, as one of the quotes in the Tarot garden states: “If life is a card game, we must play.” See you next time!
